Herausgeber*in: Black in Fashion Council, Human Rights Campaign

Schlagwörter: CSR-Maßnahmen, Diskriminierung, Diversität, Nachhaltigkeit, People of Color (PoC)

Kurzbeschreibung:

Black professionals in fashion face widespread discrimination and prejudice – a testament to the fashion industry’s historically racist and exclusionary nature. In the current report, the results of the 2021 Black in Fashion Council (BIFC) Survey, which was coordinated by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation in the Spring of the same year, are compiles and presented. In this survey 30 participants were asked to answer questions about their company’s current Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policies and practices.

The four major criteria selected for this survey were: Workplace Nondiscrimination, Building an Inclusive Culture, Engaging the Black Community and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Kurzbeschreibung:

This report—including interviews with more than 250 workers employed in 60 factories that supply to Walmart— documents the experiences of women garment workers at the base of Walmart garment supply chains in Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Indonesia. Concentrated in short term, low-skill, and low-wage positions, they are at daily risk of gender-based violence and harassment at work. This report provides an empirical account of the spectrum of gender-based violence and risk factors for violence women workers face in Walmart garment supply chains. Chapter 4 of this report presents new research on gender-based violence in Walmart garment supplier factories in Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Indonesia collected through interviews and focus group discussions with 25 workers and trade union leaders organizing in Walmart supply chains between February and May 2018. Systematically documenting risk factors for violence, this report presents new, in-depth profiles of 4 Walmart supplier factories in Bangladesh and Cambodia completed between February and May 2018. It also draws upon Asia Floor Wage Alliance (2016) documentation of rights violations at work in Walmart garment global supply chains, compiled over four years of research (2012-2016) on Walmart supply chains in Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Indonesia.

Schlagwörter: Arbeitsbedingungen, Arbeitsrechtsverletzungen, Arbeitszeiten, Chemikalien, Diskriminierung, Existenzlohn, Gewerkschaft, EU, Handel, Leder, Lohn, Schuhe, Türkei

Kurzbeschreibung:

Kurzbeschreibung:
The environmental impact of the leather industry is well known, with tanning being one of the most polluting industries in the world. Waste water from tanneries often contains high amounts of acids, salts and heavy metals. These toxic chemicals alsnegatively impact the health of workers, as has been documented by Human Rights Watch and many others. The short film ‘The Toxic Price of Leather’ by Sean Gallagher, for instance, strikingly illustrates the harmful effects on people and environment of extreme pollution caused by tanneries of the city of Kanpur, the biggest producer and exporter of leather goods in India. Less known are the many other sustainability and human rights issues related tthe leather and footwear production in India. This report explores labour conditions in the leather industry that are related tdeep-rooted social inequalities in Indian society. It highlights underlying structural issues that impact the labour conditions in the leather industry in India: caste and gender discrimination. ICN feels that tackling these structural social conditions is a crucial prerequisite for the success of any CSR initiative in the Indian leather industry.

Kurzbeschreibung:
