Anschließend geht sie ausführlich auf die Arbeitsbedingungen in der chinesischen Textil- und Bekleidungsindustrie und die vorhandenen Arbeits- und Menschenrechtsverletzungen ein.

Auf Grundlage dessen werden Ansätze zur Verbesserung der Arbeitsbedingungen in der Textil- und Bekleidungsindustrie in der Volksrepublik China diskutiert, mit besonderem Fokus auf CSR-Regimen und –Maßnahmen.

Schritte in Richtung sozialer und ökologischer Gerechtigkeit werden diskutiert, insbesondere, welche Macht Einzelnen in dieser globalen Arbeitswelt zukommt.

Climate change, population growth, and shortages of key resources are already affecting the industry and they will bring profound changes over the next 15 years. By 2025 there are expected to be another billion people living on this planet and twice as many elderly people. Climate change will have major impacts on agriculture and patterns of global land use. Many communities will change radically, affecting the needs of the industry’s customers and the availability of labour. Demand for energy, water and food will grow, prices are likely to rise, and control of resources will be a key political issue. Other factors will shape our world in less predictable ways. China, India and other emerging economies will change global patterns of trade and power and exercise a growing cultural influence. Technology will continue to transform our lives and businesses and create new opportunities – think of the impact the internet has had in the last 15 years. People’s attitudes to resource shortages, climate change and sustainability, and their levels of disposable income, will affect consumer demand. How governments act, or fail to act, on trade, economics, the environment and poverty, and how they coordinate action on these and other global issues will also have a huge impact. They cover a wide range of issues and pose some searching questions: The future is likely to be dramatically different from today. We have created four scenarios, exploring the challenges ahead for the fashion industry and its current business models.

• How will the industry react to shortages of cotton and other raw materials?
• How could the fashion workforce be affected by shifting supply chains and technological development?
• How might technology influence fashion and change the way it is produced and sold?
• How will people care for their clothes in a future of water shortages and high energy prices?
• How could reuse and remanufacturing of clothing develop as a response to higher demand and prices?

Im Rahmen des von Brot für die Welt und der Servicestelle Kommunen in der Einen Welt mitfinanzierten Projektes „Solidarität konkret – Kolleginnen und Kollegen für sozial und ökologisch hergestellte Arbeits- und Dienstkleidung“ ist jetzt eine Ausstellung erschienen.

Die Ausstellung besteht aus 10 Roll Ups. Jedes Roll Up ist 80 cm breit. Sie zeigt aus der Perspektive von Kolleginnen und Kollegen in Personalräten und kirchlichen Mitarbeitervertretungen die Bedeutung von verantwortlicher Beschaffung von Dienstbekleidung.

Ferner werden Möglichkeiten zur praktischen Umsetzung vorgestellt. Lokale Initiativen können die Ausstellung ausleihen und bei Veranstaltungen zeigen.

The H&M group is one of the world’s largest retailers with 4,801 shops worldwide. In November 2013, H&M announced that all “H&M’s strategic suppliers should have pay structures in place to pay a fair living wage by 2018. By then, this will reach around 850 000 textile workers.” At the time, those workers made 60% of H&M’s products, sourced from ‘strategic and preferred suppliers’ which H&M grades as gold or platinum. With H&M’s deadline nearing, Clean Clothes Campaign set out to check what workers were making in some of those supplier factories, and how close that was to a living wage. In our understanding, a living wage should be earned in a standard working week and allow the garment worker and her/his family to cover basic needs: food to meet nutritional needs, housing, healthcare, clothing, transportation and education, plus 10% discretionary income for savings, or protection in case of the unexpected. Our researchers spoke with 62 workers in Bulgaria, Turkey, India and Cambodia. This document highlights their key findings as well as some additional facts that shed light on H&M’s supply chain and the brand’s progress in implementing its commitments.
