ModeFAIRarbeiten - Blog zum Projekt FairSchnitt

Herausgeber_in: FEMNET e.V.

Schlagwörter:  Design, Konsum, Nachhaltigkeit, öko-faire Mode, Slow Fashion, ethical fashion

Kurzbeschreibung:

Herausgeber: Regina A. Root, Berg Publishers

Schlagwörter:  Mode, Design, Ecofashion, Fashion theory, Recycling, Ethical Fashion

Kurzbeschreibung:

Ecofashion brings together new perspectives for the field of fashion studies, asking a compelling set of research questions related to consumption practices and sustainability at a time of environmental crisis.  The volume begins with a discussion of keywords used by theorists and the industry to address ecologically oriented fashion practices, including the rationale behind the usage of "ecofashion."  Articles address natural looks that emerged in the 1960s, the rise of "green as the new black" at the beginning of the twenty-first century, recycling and the appeal of "slow fashion," and the science that informs the making of environmentally conscious garments.  Other articles show how these concepts are linked to mass-market trends underway in the globalized political economy, offering especially important connections for scholars who seek to bridge fashion theory to issues of concern in environmental and global studies.

To Die for: Is Fashion Wearing Out the World?

Verlag: Harpercollins UK

Autorin: Lucy Siegle

Schlagwörter: Design, Designer/innen, Modedesigner/innen, Zukunft, Konzepte, Visionen, ethical fashion, green fashion, Konsummuster, Lifestyle, Lebensstil, Veränderung

Kurzbeschreibung:
An expose on the fashion industry written by the Observer's 'Ethical Living' columnist, examining the inhumane and environmentally devastating story behind the clothes we so casually buy and wear. Coming at a time when the global financial crisis and contracting of consumer spending is ushering in a new epoch for the fashion industry, To Die For offers a very plausible vision of how green could really be the new black. Taking particular issue with our current mania for both big-name labels and cheap fashion, To Die For sets an agenda for the urgent changes that can and need to be made by both the industry and the consumer. Far from outlining a future of drab, ethical clothing, Lucy Siegle believes that it is indeed possible to be an 'ethical fashionista', simply by being aware of how and where (and by whom) clothing is manufactured. The global banking crisis has put the consumer at a crossroads: when money is tight should we embrace cheap fast fashion to prop up an already engorged wardrobe, or should we reject this as the ultimate false economy and advocate a return to real fashion, bolstered by the principles of individualism and style pedigree? In this impassioned book, Siegle analyses the global epidemic of unsustainable fashion, taking stock of our economic health and moral accountabilities to expose the pitfalls of fast fashion. Refocusing the debate squarely back on the importance of basic consumer rights, Siegle reveals the truth behind cut price, bulk fashion and the importance of your purchasing decisions, advocating the case for a new sustainable design era where we are assured of value for money: ethically, morally and in real terms.

This book showcases new work from over 35 of today’s most forward-thinking textile designers, featuring surface designs, highly-structured textures and striking silhouettes. Each will be presented through inspirational text and striking visual spreads to include design sketches, work-in-progress photographs and digital drawings alongside images of cutting-edge furniture, interior textiles and fashion.

Sweatshop Relay

Herausgeber/in: Labour behind the Label, GB

Schlagwörter: Sweatshop, Selber nähen, Design, Aktion, Spenden

Kurzbeschreibung:
To learn more about sweatshops in the garment industry, students can stage their own one-day sweatshop for charity, living through the experience of working in an exploitative garment factory in their own school, just for one day.
The students plan and lead their own project, deciding how to stage the one-day event, what product to manufacture, what rules to abide by (for example, 'no talking', 'no toilet breaks', which is common in the sweatshop world), and how to sell the product they have produced afterwards. All profits from this event go to Labour Behind the Label to support garment workers' struggles for better working conditions in the real world.

Autoren/innen: Janet Hethorn (Autor), Connie Ulasewicz

Schlagwörter: Design, Modedesign,  Nachhaltigkeit, Produktlebenszyklus, Ökobilanz, Materialien, Recycling, Kreislauf, System

Kurzbeschreibung:
Through a collection of specially commissioned essays, Sustainable Fashion: Why Now? examines the issues of sustainability that designers, product developers, and consumers confront as they go about their business of creating, wearing, and recycling clothing and fashion. In a broader sense, the book considers what "sustainability" means alongside "fashion"-two seemingly contradictory concepts as fashion is all about change and sustainability, is all about preservation. Through a lively range of perspectives, the authors engage their readers in a dialogue on sustainable fashion that generates new ideas on how to produce fashion with a sense of ethics, organic or renewable resources, and socially responsible manufacturing techniques.

Erscheinungsjahr: 2008

Umfang: Taschenbuch, 424 Seiten

Sprache: Englisch

Inhalt: The format of the book is an anthology, divided into three sections, each focused on an in-depth exploration of sustainable opportunity: "Connecting with Consumers on Issues Relating to Sustainable Practices," "Production and Economic Processes in the Global Economy," and "The Environment, the Planet, and the Materials Used in Fashion Making." This structure provides an interconnected and circular way to explore the creation and practice of sustainable fashion that is not possible through old, linear models of understanding the fashion industry.
Features illustrated Best Practices that demonstrate, through interviews and examples, sustainable business practices in real-life scenarios, examples of syllabi, assignments, in-class activities, discussion questions, and worksheets.

In Pedagogy and Institutional Approaches Introduction werden Praxisbeispiele vorgestellt.
